In recent years, farting in jars has been a popular trend among pranksters on YouTube, especially the PrankvsPrank guys. They have used this gimmick on numerous unsuspecting victims. This is despite this practice being illegal in the UK and various other countries where the prank took place. Those involved with this practice are often trying to make fun of human flatulence and the things people do with their gas by using it to get hilarious reactions from those who open their jar to find a surprise waiting for them.

A fart in a jar is a prank that involves sealing up someone’s flatulence and letting it build up inside, usually while they are sleeping. The container is often filled with other things, such as glitter or confetti, to add to the surprise when they open it. You can buy or make your own jar, but most people prefer the ones sold on Amazon.com for around $12-$15 in the United States. When you buy one of these jars, a fart can be sealed inside that lasts for weeks at a time. Then the person wakes up and opens the jar to be hit with their own gas in funny reactions filmed by the prankster and posted online.

While this may sound like a silly prank, it has been called “cruel” and “offensive” by police officers in various countries where it has been considered illegal to perform this prank.

Furthermore, the UK’s Care of Health and Safety Executive investigated after several people complained and found that this prank is dangerous. It posed a risk to the safety of certain people who might open the jar, thinking it contained food instead of gas. While fart in a jar does not seem like it would be harmful and is meant to be an entertaining prank, it can still be considered rude when performed on people in public or in a private place without their consent. As well as being banned outright in the UK, farting jars have been considered offensive when performed on unsuspecting victims in other countries where they have been performed. This has led to calls for the trick to be outlawed completely in those countries.

As well as causing problems in the UK, farting jars were also the subject of a legal battle in Australia between the Federal Court and a Canadian YouTuber, who was charged and fined $5,000 NZD after he sent a jar of gas to his friend. Although he was eventually found not guilty, it is worth noting that this prank could see you sentenced to jail time or slapped with fines if you perform them in a certain country or on certain people without their permission. Since this prank can be performed on people asleep, it can have unexpected results. They may have been ill or sleeping in another room at the time of the prank and still completely unaware that they are due to open a jar of gas they did not agree to. If you perform this prank on somebody without their permission, you could be charged with harassment or assault and face up to a dozen years in jail or a fine of up to $30,000 for your actions if convicted.
